Feeling Unproductive? Make a list [Reflection/blog]

Sometimes when time appears to fly by, I feel as if I’m not being as productive as I would like.  Now I’m not one to promote DOING in any way.  I think being focused on “doing” and being “busy” distracts us from BEING who we really are.  However, there are certain goals and tasks that I’d like to get accomplished, as we all do.

When time flies by, it’s easy to feel unproductive, particularly when there are job, family, and social concerns that abound.  It’s also easy to get down on yourself and believe you are not doing what you need to do and aren’t where you need to be.  I had that moment not too long ago.  I was about to log onto my Mastermind group, which is held bi-weekly, and I sat there thinking, “what have a gotten done since two weeks ago?”  I really felt like I had made little progress, if any, on my objectives.  So I quickly made a list.

Now, I’m definitely an advocate for list-making (though it might not be for everyone).  I create yearly goals, as well as general to-do lists at any given moment to keep me organized and focused.  It also helps me to be creative (as I come up with lovely things to do).

Most times when we think of lists, we write things TO DO – which are upcoming.  But when you’re feeling unproductive, I would suggest you write down things YOU’VE DONE (already completed).

Why?

It’s a reminder of just how much you do (even things you’d consider “little”).
It helps you to become more self-aware.
It can even help with gratitude (being grateful for what you do and what you’ve completed)
It can help you see various aspects of your life where you’ve done just what you wanted to do (career, house, spiritual, adventure, etc)
It can show you areas you might want to change or decrease (I mean really, who needs to do a whole bunch of stuff anyway?)

So try making some lists today.  It will be great to see just how productive you are and have been in your own life.  You really are!

What’s your experience with list-making?  Have you made any about your past accomplishments?  Tell us below!
