Connecting With New People
Are we loosing our ability and interest to connect with or meet new people? I was watching the news this morning and learned that a church is banning its members from asking the question, “What do you do (for a living)?” The church is saying this question is to invasive and that members should connect a different way. I personally do not agree with this.
I do not have a problem sharing what I do as an icebreaker. For me, in order to learn new things, and fully experience humanity, I must connect with new people. What I do, is an entry point to discussion. Discussion enables me to connect with new people and experience the world through different perspectives. Also when I network, I’m opened up to new and exciting opportunities. When I’m a stranger to a person or a group of people doors for new experiences open up less or more slowly.

Do you think connecting with people is important? Is the question what do you do for a living too invasive? What do you do (for a living)?
