Are you struggling with your sense of purpose? Have you been asking God to reveal your calling. If this is the case you are not the only one who struggles with this issue. For quite some time I was trying to figure out what God created me to do. I have taken various spiritual gift assessments/test and although they were good, they only dealt with church functions/activities. This left me with a sense of emptiness at my desk job.
Finally I was given a valuable resource. This resource was the Myers Briggs personality test. The Myers Briggs test, developed by Catherine and Isabel Briggs is based on psychological theories developed by Carl Jung. The test simply measures the way we experience the world through 4 areas (sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking). Enough about all the technical details of the test. Here is what the test did for me. For years I have desired to hone my leadership skills and be in a place to utilize them. As it relates to work I’m organized and I am able to notice gaps or where areas of change are needed.
According to the test I am an ENTJ (Extravert, iNtuitive, Thinking, Judging). Here are the traits of an ENTJ:
Driven to turn theories into plans
Highly value knowledge
Impatient with inefficiency and incompetence
Want things structured and orderly
Excellent verbal communication skills
Dislike routine, detail-oriented tasks
All of the above are true in my case. Here is where the test paid off. All of the personality traits have jobs associated with them. Here are a few of the jobs that matched my test:
business (CEOs, marketing managers, entrepreneurs…)
professor/academic/lecturer (great verbal skills and ability to present things as simple as possible)
politicians/state leaders (big picture thinking, debating skills and leading)
After taking the test everything I had been thinking makes sense. Now it is time to re-position myself to be in alignment with who I was created to be.
What were your results? Did the test reveal anything to you? Let us know in the comments below
