A Prayer for Lamar Odom [Reflection/Blog]

Often, we have a weird perversion as it relates to reality television. We love the excitement, we love the drama and we love to see people crash and burn. After the media and paparazzi camera flashes finish chewing these stars/people up, we are often searching for the next juicy story.

Insert Lamar Odom and his wife Khloe Kardshian. It has been said that Lamar Odom has been struggling with a serious drug addiction. I expect nothing less from the media than to hound Lamar during his struggles, but the responses from some consumers have been outright despicable to say the least.

According to People.com:

“Over the years the former Laker and Olympian has faced one painful loss after the other. Odom has two children, Destiny, 13, and Lamar Jr., 10, with his ex-girlfriend of over 10 years, Liza Morales. In 2006 the couple lost a third child, Jayden, to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

In July 2011, two more deaths rocked the basketball star. A close cousin died of gunshot wounds in New York, Odom told ESPN, and just two days later, while riding in a chauffeur-driven SUV, he was involved in a car accident that resulted in a 15-year-old pedestrian’s death.[1]

Instead of spending our time criticizing and objectifying him, we should pray for him and his family.

With that said, I first pray that Lamar and his family, including Khloe Kardashian, will be given some much needed privacy during this time that will provide Lamar with the help he needs.  I also pray that Lamar will receive (and be open to receiving) the help he needs to overcome the grief from the personal loss that he has experienced revolving around death.  I also pray that Lamar will find himself surrounded by a circle of family and friends who will be understanding and willing and able to give him the support he needs on the road to a healthy recovery.  Finally I pray that God will open our hearts to be caring and compassionate to those who are famous and may be struggling with their personal issues. We have confidence in you God to answer these prayers.  IN JESUS NAME AMEN.
