Why do hardcore religious people think that prayer fixes everything? This question is taken directly from Twitter. For those of us who are really into our faith, we never think about this. It is second nature. We pray and God answers.

When we turn to Matthew 7:7 or John 14:13, Jesus basically tells us that God hears and will answer our prayers. We assume this includes “fixing things”. Let’s tuck the scripture away for a second, though. Most of us have faith in our prayers either because God has answered them directly or we’ve seen prayers answered for others. It’s our experience leading us to believe that God will fix things or answer our prayers.

Now I’m not under the false assumption that God fixes everything. I know there are plenty of times when I will have to work in parallel with God. James 2:17 speaks about faith without works being dead. So for instance, if I’m praying for good health, I’ll have to also make healthy decisions as I wait and expect for God to answer my prayers. So will God fix things? Sure. Will God require us to do our part? Absolutely. Will God fix everything? Unfortunately not but we still are to remain hopeful and faithful anyway.
